Sales Director - Pharmaceuticals

Reports To: Vice President 

Job Summary:

The Sales Director is responsible for leading the national sales team and driving the overall sales strategy for the company's pharmaceutical products. This role requires a dynamic leader with proven experience in pharmaceutical sales management, the ability to develop and implement strategic sales plans, and a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical industry. The Sales Director will oversee the sales team’s performance, maintain relationships with key clients, and ensure the achievement of revenue targets and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Sales Strategy & Execution:

    • Develop and implement comprehensive sales strategies to achieve revenue goals.
    • Monitor industry trends, market dynamics, and competitor activities to adjust strategies accordingly.
    • Collaborate with Marketing, Medical Affairs, and Product Development teams to align sales efforts with broader company objectives.
  2. Team Leadership & Development:

    • Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing national or regional sales team.
    • Establish clear performance metrics and monitor progress against goals.
    • Foster a positive, competitive, and results-oriented culture within the sales team.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback to team members.
  3. Client & Key Account Management:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key healthcare providers, hospitals, and pharmacies.
    • Lead negotiations with key accounts and ensure alignment with company pricing and distribution policies.
    • Represent the company at industry conferences and events to increase visibility and foster new business opportunities.
  4. Financial & Performance Reporting:

    • Monitor and analyze sales performance, providing regular updates to senior leadership.
    • Develop accurate sales forecasts and manage the sales budget.
    • Identify areas for improvement and recommend actions to optimize sales performance.
  5. Compliance & Regulatory Awareness:

    • Ensure that all sales activities comply with applicable laws and regulations in the pharmaceutical industry.
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of the product portfolio, including clinical data, safety information, and therapeutic advantages.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Life Sciences, or related field (MBA preferred).
  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical sales, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
    • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
    • Experience managing a national or multi-regional sales team.
    • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical sales processes, market access, and healthcare regulations.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
    • Ability to interpret and act on complex data and analytics.
    • High proficiency in CRM systems and sales performance management tools.
