Senior Scientist Mass Spectrometry
Location: London, UK (Hybrid)
This innovative biotech company specializes in developing proprietary ADCs for treating cancer, with a strong focus on transitioning preclinical assets into the clinic. With multiple clinical and preclinical programs in development, the company combines expertise in antibody engineering, bioconjugation, and analytical sciences to deliver transformative oncology therapies. Their state of the art labs serve as the hub for R&D, driving discoveries and we are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Scientist to join their growing R&D team focused on advancing the development of antibody-drug conjugates, leveraging cutting-edge analytical techniques and mass spectrometry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the expansion of routine antibody characterisation workflows, including stress studies, sequence liability assessments, and post-translational modification (PTM) and glycan analysis.
- Collaborate with Bioconjugation and Downstream Manufacturing teams to develop analytical protocols for clinical candidate molecules, including drug-to-antibody ratio (DAR) determination.
- Support Antibody Engineering in the development and characterisation of novel antibody and ADC formats.
- Maintain detailed records of experiments and methodologies, ensuring clear communication and collaboration across teams.
- Take a leading role in a cross-functional project team to develop preclinical ADC assets, gaining exposure to all stages of early drug discovery.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
- BSc/MSc in Life Sciences or Chemistry with a strong background in Biochemistry.
- Proven expertise in mass spectrometry (e.g., peptide mapping, DAR determination) with experience using tools such as MassHunter software and Agilent systems (preferred).
- Proficiency in analytical techniques like LC-MS, HIC-HPLC, SEC, IEX, and RP-HPLC; experience with Chromeleon software and Vanquish UHPLC systems is advantageous.
- A track record in developing and troubleshooting analytical methods for protein and conjugate characterisation.
- Strong skills in data analysis, attention to detail, and accurate record-keeping.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Industry or biotech experience.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Expertise in HPLC methods for protein quantitation, charge variant analysis, and glycan profiling.
- Mass spectrometry experience with small molecules, such as payload cleavage studies.
- Hands-on experience with AKTA purification systems and Unicorn software.
- Knowledge of chromatographic techniques, including affinity purification via Protein A, G, and L.
- Experience with biomolecule tracking software such as Genedata Biologics.
