Ottumwa, Iowa - Director, Plant Operations (Healthcare Facility)

Are you an experienced facilities management professional with a drive to ensure the optimal functioning of a healthcare environment? Join a leading regional hospital in Southeast Iowa, renowned for providing high-quality medical services to the community. We are seeking a Director of Plant Operations to lead our facilities management, safety, and operational initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement the hospital’s strategic programming objectives by integrating them into long-range planning for facilities, ensuring the infrastructure supports new programs and initiatives.
  • Plan for and manage facilities, equipment, and other resources needed to support hospital growth and new healthcare services.
  • Oversee the maintenance of existing property, facilities, equipment, roadways, grounds, and other physical resources used by hospital staff, visitors, and patients.
  • Develop and execute business plans that align with the hospital’s strategic goals.
  • Participate in capital equipment allocation and capital improvements, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Lead the Life Safety and Environment of Care programs, ensuring full compliance with Joint Commission standards.
  • Serve as the Hospital Safety Officer and chair the Safety Committee, prioritizing a safe environment for all.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with senior leadership, including the CEO, CFO, and CNO, as well as department directors.
  • Manage local, state, and EPA reporting requirements.
  • Oversee contracts for natural gas futures and hedges, ensuring cost-effective energy use.
  • Coordinate departmental moves and renovations within the facility.
  • Maintain accurate records and organize information to support operational efficiency.
  • Foster leadership development and teamwork within the facilities management team, driving continuous improvement and problem-solving.
  • Engage in energy audits and cost containment initiatives to optimize resource use.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, guidelines, policies, and professional standards.

Qualifications:
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA compliance.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Hospital Administration, or Technical Training preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in facilities management, with a preference for experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of engineering and basic safety in healthcare is a plus.
  • Certification as a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) or Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) within one year of employment.
